In April 2024, ROLDA purchased 89,500 square meters (22.1 acres) to build a state-of-the-art shelter and expand our facilities. ROLDA will create the following spaces to serve best the animals we care for and more.

● 12,000 square meters (2.9 acres) will be used for outdoor spaces, providing open areas for activities like exercise.
● 7,500 square meters are reserved for buildings, with a total floor space of 5,285 square meters (approximately 56,887 square feet).
FAQ
Here are some frequently asked questions to help you better understand the ROLDA PawzUp Center.
How much land is available for the PawzUp Center project?
Why are we transforming the current large dog shelter into the PawzUp Center?
Unfortunately, we have received notice that our shelter must move because of the construction of a new road in its current location. Now, we are tasked with the enormous responsibility of moving hundreds of dogs to new locations.
Although this presents a significant challenge, we embrace it as a chance to improve the living conditions and security of the animals in our care. For nine years, our current shelter has been a temporary refuge for countless dogs in need. Now, we have the chance to build something new—a shelter that will provide a safe haven for these vulnerable animals and reflect the love and care we give them.
We need help to achieve our goal. Your help is crucial in building this new space and ensuring the animals receive the care they deserve. With your support, we can make this happen and provide a brighter future for more animals.

How will ROLDA secure the funds to cover the cost of running the PawzUp Center?
In addition to acquiring donations and legacies, we will offer sponsorship opportunities for companies to fund our social programs, animal therapy, and social activities that involve the community. Private individuals and companies will also have the opportunity to sponsor name boxes or entire units.
Why should I invest in the PawzUp Center?
ROLDA operates in one of the poorest regions of Romania, where a family of 4 (or more) members survives on a budget of approximately 350 EUR a month. Housepets (cats, dogs), working animals (horses, donkeys), and around 200,000 street dogs are exposed to risks such as starvation, disease, death, or abandonment daily. The local small clinics are overwhelmed by the large number of animals in need, and larger animals face a grisly fate because veterinary clinics are not equipped to meet their needs. We want to fill this void and take matters into our own hands for their sake!
Who will benefit from the PawzUp Center?
PawzUp will care for abused, neglected, and abandoned animals, including dogs, cats, large animals (horses and donkeys), and small farm animals (goats, chickens, and rabbits).
Some facts:
● Romania still has around 1 million homeless animals living on the streets or in filthy public shelters where they are rarely adopted. Dogs and cats suffer in these poor communities where they struggle to survive.
● Romania has an estimated population of 2 million seniors who live alone – victims of poverty, neglect, and depression. These people would greatly benefit from a furry companion to brighten their lives.
● The Galați-Brăila area, located in the southeast of Romania, has the 2nd largest urban density after the capital city but is also one of the country's poorest regions.
The PawzUp Center will have the challenging mission to cover a large area, similar in size to half of Switzerland, because there are no modern facilities for animals in the neighboring counties of Galati – Vaslui, Vrancea, Buzău, Bacău, and Neamț. The whole south-eastern region of Romania, plus a bit of the country's north, will count on our center to step in and do something about the population of abandoned and injured animals and the people who care about them.
Moreover, considering that ROLDA shelters are a few miles from the Ukrainian border, Pawzup will be the perfect link between animals and those who work tirelessly to rescue them.

What are our ambitions?
Our ambitions reach far beyond national borders, driven by the belief that every animal deserves safety, dignity, and love — no matter where they are born. In 2025, we expanded our efforts into Ukraine and neighboring countries, where countless innocent lives are caught in the chaos of conflict. We began rescuing animals in urgent need, from those trapped in cruel puppy mills to those on the verge of being abandoned as the front line shifts. Even as territories change hands and people are forced to retreat, our determination only grows stronger. We see every rescue not just as a life saved, but as a small victory for kindness in a time of uncertainty. With every mission, we bring hope where it is fading and prove that compassion knows no borders. Together, we can ensure that these animals are not forgotten — that they find safety, care, and the loving homes they deserve.
